On Leaving Our Insecurities Behind As Women

July 25, 2013 by Traci

“He who trims himself to suit everyone,

will soon whittle himself away.”

~Raymond Hull

We are all broken people.  We all have our weird habits and quirky behaviors.  Keeping our stuff to our self may seem like a safe haven, but in reality, it is a slow way to suffocate.

We need one another.
We also hate being hurt.
So we push people away.

Behind closed doors, after a long day of being strong and playing fearless, we relentlessly give way to our yoga pants, a spoon and a full half gallon ice cream dipping marathon.

Because we are tired.
Tired of fighting.
Tired of trying.
Tired.

We don’t want people to know we are human.  That we make mistakes.  That we sometimes feel like kicking and screaming instead of fighting the front lines of parenting or our marriage.

So we don’t ask for help.  Once again, we put on our happy church face instead of saying, I need help.  I need help.

Let’s face it, we all need help.  We are all hopelessly flawed.  On our best day, we are weak and just need a friend to vent to.  To accept us.  As is.  Weird quirks and all.

That’s how you know you’ve found a true friend.  When you can be raw and open with your deepest needs and failures, and be accepted with open arms, and a tub full of Byrne Dairy Holy Cow.

So, can we leave our insecurities at the door, ladies?  Because at the end of the day, we all just want to be accepted and loved.  To be free to have the deep conversations and also perform the infamous ugly cry, belly laugh, and snort milk up our nose if need be.

So be that friend.  Drop the walls.  Drop the masks.  Drop it all, for the sake of the greater good.  Bury your differences in the sand.

Stop pretending you have it all together and stop fearing others won’t think you are the amazing person you are because you don’t.  Because you are.  Amazing.

Don’t let friendships die because you’ve been hurt.  Put hurt aside because you know in your heart you are kindred spirits.

Insecurities build barriers that were meant to be torn down and left for dead.

So leave them for dead and be a woman who rises above her insecurities for the greater good.  We need one another, flaws and all. We are broken and need one another.  We need Jesus in the middle.

Psalm 119:105-112 MSG… I love what it says here:

“Everything’s falling apart on me, God;

put me together again with your Word.”

Like broken puzzle pieces, He picks up the broken pieces and puts us together again with His Word!
