Day 17: Simple Relaxation

October 17, 2013 by Traci

Most days, just five minutes in the bathroom by myself seems like sufficient relaxation.  What’s with little children tracking you down and sticking their chubby little phalanges under the door?  It is pretty cute, I must say.

Stress is at an all time high in most of our lives.  It’s hard to avoid.  Sometimes it is just the good stresses of life that affect us.  So what are some practical and simple ways we can relax?

Journal.  Writing is good medicine and a great way to unwind.
Breathe.  Take some deep, long, slow breaths.
Lavender essential oil.  Mix some lavender oil with water in a spray bottle and spritz your pillow before bedtime.
Make lists.  Sometimes just writing stuff down helps get it off our brain.
Accept what you can’t control.  Sometimes we cause ourselves stress by simply worrying about what we can’t control.
Turn your worries over to the Lord.  Picture yourself physically laying each burden at Jesus’s feet.
Laugh and play.  Don’t be afraid to be silly and act like a child sometimes.  Sometimes a good belly laugh out loud is needed.
Bubble Bath.  Take a long, hot bubble bath.
Pray for others.  Be others-minded!
Focus on today.  Tomorrow has enough concerns of its own.
Deep tissue massage.  I mean seriously… at least once in your life.
Take a power nap.  Catch a quick 15-minute power nap when you can.
Spa it up.  Save your money and have a girls day at a local salon/spa.
Go for a brisk walk.  This is a great way to unwind.
Meditate on God’s Word.  Meditate on some good Bible verses.
Burn some candles.  Find a relaxing scent you like.
Find time to enjoy a hobby.  Find a hobby and craft you enjoy.
Intimacy.  Enough said.
Don’t try to be like others.  Be yourself!  You are awesome just the way you are.
Heated rice bags.  Place it around your neck in the evenings!
Listen to music.  Play some relaxing music.
Go for a drive by yourself.  I love doing this.  Drive through a local park and appreciate God’s beautiful creation.
Go shopping.  Just go to Target.  Always go to Target.
Be thankful and content.  Godliness with contentment is great gain!  1 Timothy 6:6.
