WORD PROMPT: ROOTS
Today my roots were floating down an abandoned stream.
It had been one of those mornings. Kids fighting. Baby crying. Needless to say, I felt unglued. You know those conversations in your heard where you’re telling yourself to calm down and be the adult and all you want to do is scream and whine back? Yeah, that kind of morning.
I tell her to go get dressed, and brush your teeth, and just put that shirt on without complaining. I tell her to get her sneakers on (it’s gym day) and put your coat on. The tension is thick, can you feel it? It’s all I can do to spin off into a whirlwind of sorts, and my emotions are at the peak of all peaks.
And then…
My six year old daughter picks up her pink precious moments bible, and asks me to read her a story. So without thinking, I open to Psalm chapter 1.

I choke on tears, clutching my throat. I read the words on those pages that bring life. Those red letter words that beckon my reading. Not out of obligation, but from His arms of love. I see it. Those roots… I had come unraveled because my roots were not firm beneath the soil of God’s Holy Word in my heart. In my life.
I want to meditate on His law, day and night.
I want to be like a tree, with her roots dug down into firm soil that prospers and yields a peaceable and compassionate harvest.
I don’t want my leaves to wither and crumble.
I want to prosper because I’ve met with Jesus.
He is where my firm foundation is.
Sometimes God uses the very people in your home {the little people} to redirect your heart to Him. Dig deep. Be rooted and grounded in His love today.
Today my roots were floating down an abandoned stream. My foundation has been reestablished. My roots will be planted by the vibrant streams of water!
