WORD PROMPT: ROOTS
Today my roots were floating down an abandoned stream.
It had been one of those mornings. Kids fighting. Baby crying. Needless to say, I felt unglued. You know those conversations in your heard where you’re telling yourself to calm down and be the adult and all you want to do is scream and whine back? Yeah, that kind of morning.
I tell her to go get dressed, and brush your teeth, and just put that shirt on without complaining. I tell her to get her sneakers on (it’s gym day) and put your coat on. The tension is thick, can you feel it? It’s all I can do to spin off into a whirlwind of sorts, and my emotions are at the peak of all peaks.
And then…
My six year old daughter picks up her pink precious moments bible, and asks me to read her a story. So without thinking, I open to Psalm chapter 1.

I choke on tears, clutching my throat. I read the words on those pages that bring life. Those red letter words that beckon my reading. Not out of obligation, but from His arms of love. I see it. Those roots… I had come unraveled because my roots were not firm beneath the soil of God’s Holy Word in my heart. In my life.
I want to meditate on His law, day and night.
I want to be like a tree, with her roots dug down into firm soil that prospers and yields a peaceable and compassionate harvest.
I don’t want my leaves to wither and crumble.
I want to prosper because I’ve met with Jesus.
He is where my firm foundation is.
Sometimes God uses the very people in your home {the little people} to redirect your heart to Him. Dig deep. Be rooted and grounded in His love today.
Today my roots were floating down an abandoned stream. My foundation has been reestablished. My roots will be planted by the vibrant streams of water!

Look who linked up right after you. roomie!! This was exactly what I needed to hear this morning. What is it about putting on a shirt?? I didn’t get fully grounded this morning and my roots were showing some, too. Thank you for these passages, they are living water for me this morning. So blessed to have you as a real life friend now.

That was beautiful! What a wonderful teachable moment you had. Most time we think it’s for the littles, but often times it’s for us! What a beautiful story! Thanks for sharing and for visiting!

Oh, what a great post. I totally understand those kids of mornings and the need to just go in the closet and scream in a pillow! But God is so good to remind us though simple things, like your daughter asking you to read his Promises! That brings rest, reassurance and power to press on through love! Thanks for you comment and I’m glad to “find” you!

Isn’t it amazing how our littlest ones can bring us back to such truth? My roots have floated around a bit, but I’m grateful to know I get to plant them in God’s word.
Thanks for a beautiful post!

Just a moment… I’m really trying to find words to express where my heart went during this post!
I love those moments, the one’s like you’ve shared. We’re in the midst of the whirlwind and He shows up. It may be in the quiet voice of our little one or in the sweet whisper the is distinctly His. Either way, He reminds us He is there ~ always!!
I LOVED meeting you at Allume and treasure the time we were able to share. It wasn’t nearly long enough. I could have talked for hours and hours. I told my husband I’m going to take a tour of the East coast to visit all my sweet friends and you’re on that list!! Not sure when, but I want to make it happen!
Love you, Traci, and so appreciate you:)

I was nodding along with your words as I read! Thank you for reminding us that we can draw strength from our roots in Jesus even on the most frustrating parenting days!

Hey Traci, I think we all have those days–days where we just want to lock ourselves in the bathroom and tell everyone who comes knocking to go away. As moms we can’t really do that so God does use our little people to soften our hearts and turn our eyes on Him. Thanks for the encouraging words again today. It put my focus back where it needs to be.

What a gorgeous reflection, Traci! I can totally relate to those mornings when just *finding* the shirt…or the gym shoes seems like a battle you just don’t have the strength to fight. I love how your heart was open to God’s word and how you used that quiet time with your daughter to breathe new life into your day. Great job; lovely post!
