What Are You Eating Today?

June 17, 2010 by Traci

After the previous post regarding vampires, it has got me thinking.  A lot.  What comes in, will come out.  No matter what it is!  No matter how much we think it is not affecting us.  One facebook commenter had this to say:

“You can argue this about ANYTHING on TV… How about Grey’s Anatomy? Gossip Girl? Dancing With The Stars? American Idol? 24? CSI? 2 1/2 Men? Heroes? Are they more acceptable than Twilight? Yes, I think there is a GREAT DEAL more to worry about than just Twilight… Christians are poisoning themselves with TV EVERY DAY. We should challenge ourselves to turn off the prime Time TV, and open our Bibles. After a year, you will turn the TV back on and be shocked at all the sin and perversion you used to swallow.”

Ouch!  Conviction straight to the core over here!  Every family needs to evaluate how much social media they allow into their home.  For our family, we have an average size flat screen television.  Others choose to remove television completely from their home.  I truly don’t think one is better than the other.

But what I DO believe is, we could all do well to spend a whole lot more time in our BIBLE, rather than in front of the television or computer screen.

Whatever you do for your family, is right for your family.  If the Lord is convicting you through reading His Word, that a certain show, movie, book, drink, or online viewing sampling is not glorifying to Him….

BE OBEDIENT.  It is not my job to judge another brother or sister.  On this blog I am free to share my opinion.  That is the right of the blog owner.  But I’m not here to judge you.

Truth is, we ALL have our own “pet sins”.  We all struggle with sin, just maybe in a different light than our neighbor.

As I was reading the bible this morning, Galatians 6:7-8 hit me square between the eyes.

7Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
What am I sowing?  What am I feeding my soul?  If it is gossip, vain glory, gluttony, sexual promiscuity, hatred, pride… what comes in, will come out of me!  If not right away, eventually.  Sin builds up like a cancerous cluster of cells.  It metastasizes!
On the other hand, if I am feeding myself the things of the Spirit, I will overflow with love, forgiveness, grace, and a peace-making Spirit!  (Which definitely do not come naturally to my flesh).
Every action has a result.  If I am planting in my garden of Traci, things of the flesh, I will produce a worldly and empty crop.  If I am planting with the mindset of pleasing and glorifying God, I will reap joy and things that will last for eternity!

Am I thinking negative thoughts about my husband?  Negative thoughts can turn into coveting or lusting after what is not mine.

Am I gossiping to my friend about another person?  I am cultivating a breeding ground of hatred and strife.

Am I more concerned with fantasy than reality?  If so, I may be neglecting the very people that God has called me to serve… the people right in my home!

What are your thoughts?
What are you eating today?
