God’s Grace… For When A Mom Kicks A Hole In The Wall

April 14, 2012 by Traci

Yes, you read that right.  I kicked a hole in the wall yesterday.  I flat out punted the wall actually.  {Totally humiliating I know!}  I considered keeping this horribly embarrassing and humbling nightmare a secret, but when you have two children who saw you do it and they blab it to a stranger in the grocery isle of Wegmans, is there really keeping it a secret?  So why not blog about it?
My daughter to me, “Mommy, don’t you wish that was a dream and it never happened?”  “Yes honey, I do.”
The fact is, we do stupid things.  We fail.  We are human.  I am flesh.
I’m not going to go into details, but I was low on sleep, high on stress, the baby was finally asleep, the older two screamed at the top of their lungs and woke him up, and this Mama flat out kicked the wall!
There.  Now don’t you feel better about your poor-mommy-moments?  I’m glad I could help.

What I’ve learned…and what I hope you can take away from this and never repeat my horribly shameful wall-kicking escapade:
1) We need to ask for help as moms.  Sometimes we think we can do it all.  We can’t.  We can’t.  We can’t.  And when you think you can and you come to your breaking moment, you may just kick a hole in the wall.  So ask for help.
2) We need to find a way to release our stress.  Exercise is a must for anyone, especially a mom.  I (you) need to find a way each day to get some exercise and frustration out.  Or else.
3) We need to be in God’s Word daily.  There’s really no way around this one.  We need to be reading, meditating, and recalling scripture to mind all throughout our day.
4) Don’t let your stress build to the point of wanting to kick a hole in your wall.  That is just not cool.
5) There is grace (much grace) in our less-than-fine moments as a mom.  Ask for forgiveness from your children.  Admit and confess your sin.  Move on.
God is good… all the time, His grace is sufficient…
2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

LOL… I TOTALLY understand!! I have a rather large “dent” in my wall…. from my HEAD!! (you know the saying….) Well, my 2 GRANDsons were having a DAY….. and I told them I’d get more response out of the wall than I was out of them and I “demonstrated”… did NOT expect the wall to cave in!! LOL… they laughed about it… now it’s a joke, “Me-ma really IS hard-headed, see…..” :-)) you are NOT alone…..

You poor thing. I had those type moments when my kids were little and now my daughter is having some of those same moments. Admitting it is good and so is the reflection on the situation and ways to help not get to that point again. Bless you and know that this too shall pass.

I remember well the days that a constantly screaming baby almost snapped my last nerve. At that time, most of my walls were concrete, (seriously) so that may have hurt ME too much.

I’m pouring a bucket of grace on you today, Traci!

I love your new blog look too!

I know we have all been there… Last time I kicked a wall – I broke my toe – not the wall.

Thinking of you and loving how honest and open we are. Why do we take care of ourselves last??

Oh Traci, I can relate. Two years ago I put my hand through a window. It was “one of those days” and I went to shut the back door, but I was so upset that I SLAMMED it and put my hand right through the glass. Had to make a bloody trip to the ER.

Great advice! Thank you for your transparency!

This post is awesome because I have always wanted to kick a hole in the wall. lol. It is funny how much we learn about ourselves when we become parents. I have learned that I am very impatient, have a temper, and am horrible at multitasking. Thank goodness God loves us unconditionally. Following from UBP. Thanks.

This blessed me much! Not that you did that, but that you humbled yourself to share it. The burden becomes lighter when we share our failures and God will bless it. (James 5:17) This is what I call worshipping in Spirit and in truth. Love your heart Traci.

a gentle breeze blows through fresh, new blooms.
Your time is fleeting, yet faithful,
a promise of beauty each spring.

Gifting petals that fall to the earth,
You are waiting for me to visit you.
Basking beneath warm shadows,
Deeply breathing in nature’s favorite perfume.

A legacy of faithful promise,
Graceful, elegant, familiar and kind.
As the sun streams through branches,
Your reflection twinkles and twirls,
Leaving your dance card upon my heart.

You whisper, come linger a little longer,
No need to be in such a rush.
Through storm clouds, torrential rain,
and those picture perfect days,
You continue your steady climb toward the heavens.

Your limbs grow stronger, your roots deeper still.
Your humble beauty speaks for itself.
No need to shout, nor beg for attention.
You hold the secrets of many who return year after year,
Who sit beneath your branches,
and find healing to bloom as well.
