FIVE MINUTE FRIDAY- Connected

December 16, 2011 by Traci

I’ve made it an ugly habit of getting online without opening my Bible first.  Patterns of behavior start with a simple choice.  One. simple. choice.  turns. into. many. ugly. choices.

Ugly choices turn into ugly, yucky, selfish habits.

And soooooo…. the old saying goes, it takes 30 days to form a new habit.  Put off the old ways, put on the new, says His Word.

I’ve committed this week to start opening my BIBLE first.  Not getting on my computer and opening my online Bible because for some reason my fingers type those other keys…. yahoomail, facebook, blogger… and I get swept away into fleeting, earthly things.

God has met me face to face this week.  Just this morning, as I was reading His Holy Word, God OVERWHELMED ME with His love. To the point where it was fresh, living and tangible.  I could almost taste Him!  Psalms 34:8 says, Oh taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man that trusts in Him.

After spending some time in God’s Word and in prayer, I opened my computer and found this message from my friend Lisa,

“I prayed that you would be overwhelmed by God’s love today.  Have a blessed day, resting in the loving arms of your Father.”

My jaw literally dropped.  God reminded me that our prayers for one another are SO important.  That we are all CONNECTED in a powerful way!

And so… I will be using this tool that she uses… called PRAYERBOOK…. and using my Facebook for some good!

Traci, I have been so blessed in praying for others. And I love when the Holy Spirit lays words on my heart to prayer that are just perfect for that person. It just confirms that God knows us and loves us. Be blessed day my sweet friend!

So wonderful to meet you! Visiting from Five Minute Friday at The Gypsy Mama! I too should be starting the day – at least for five minutes! – in the Bible. You are right, dead on right. Thank you for your honesty and encouragement!

I hear you, Traci. I’ve been so quick to get to the computer or handle tasks, before I connect with the Father and His Word. I am in the constant position of learning and relearning. Thank you for your post.

Truly, this was something the Lord really used to convict me. I have really been fighting with this just putting the computor before the Lord and this was yet another reminder to get my priorities straight! Thank you! I think I will start that challenge to go to the Word first as well. thanks 🙂
    Blessings!

Me too. I like an online bible so I can easily cross reference different versions, but I too like to “wake up” with social media first. I’ve been really convicted about how social media contributes to prayerlessness for me.

Traci, This used to be a very bad habit of mine; checking my phone and computer before opening my Bible. Now, God is first. Social media later.

I have been so blessed by praybook. When I pray for others, it blesses me. So many people I have prayed for through praybook have come back and said it was exactly what they needed. Wow, only God can do that. I have also been prayed for by many others through praybook and it always blesses me.

Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue, a gentle b Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue,
a gentle breeze blows through fresh, new blooms.
Your time is fleeting, yet faithful,
a promise of beauty each spring.

Gifting petals that fall to the earth,
You are waiting for me to visit you.
Basking beneath warm shadows,
Deeply breathing in nature’s favorite perfume.

A legacy of faithful promise,
Graceful, elegant, familiar and kind.
As the sun streams through branches,
Your reflection twinkles and twirls,
Leaving your dance card upon my heart.

You whisper, come linger a little longer,
No need to be in such a rush.
Through storm clouds, torrential rain,
and those picture perfect days,
You continue your steady climb toward the heavens.

Your limbs grow stronger, your roots deeper still.
Your humble beauty speaks for itself.
No need to shout, nor beg for attention.
You hold the secrets of many who return year after year,
Who sit beneath your branches,
and find healing to bloom as well.
