Young At Heart

July 22, 2011 by Traci

Have you ever tried to write a blog post without thinking… just write?  It’s hard… well, I thought it would be harder.  It actually is quite freeing!  I’m linking up with the Gypsy Mama @ 5 Minute Friday.  Would you like to give it a try?  Here’s my first stab at it.

I walk along a bed of stream… full of fish and turtles and moss.  I hear the rush of the current; I can feel it beat against my breast.  I feel the power of nature; of Him.

I have always loved water.  Streams, creeks (some say “crick”), lakes, oceans… I’ll take it any way you can provide.

I slip off my shoes and socks and my feet feel sticky and warm.  I sit on the edge of the bridge and place them in the cold water.

I am refreshed.

I walk along jagged rocks and pick up stones that intrigue me.

It is dusk now.  The day has escaped me and I don’t have a care in the world.

I am young; about the awkward age of {eleven}.

Summer days as a child… filled with wild excitement and new adventures.

That is what I want for my children… to stay as simple and innocent… for as long as they can.

Keep feeding your children care-free, summer-filled days… all throughout the year.  It will keep them young… and it will keep you young-at-heart as well!

I love the suggestion of just being with and like your children, to be carefree, to be the child God designed you to be.

With so many moms buying into the “gotta be involved in several sports and clubs, etc, so much so that we are on the road all the time” mindset, it is refreshing to see that you are creating time and space for you and your children to enjoy simple pleasures together, as you say, to “keep them young, and you young-at-heart as well”.

    Well said!

Great stuff! Focusing where you are certainly helps our perspective to be more on the heart–and that is worship. Lovely.

And…keep doing these Friday-freedom writing things!

Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue, a gentle b Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue,
a gentle breeze blows through fresh, new blooms.
Your time is fleeting, yet faithful,
a promise of beauty each spring.

Gifting petals that fall to the earth,
You are waiting for me to visit you.
Basking beneath warm shadows,
Deeply breathing in nature’s favorite perfume.

A legacy of faithful promise,
Graceful, elegant, familiar and kind.
As the sun streams through branches,
Your reflection twinkles and twirls,
Leaving your dance card upon my heart.

You whisper, come linger a little longer,
No need to be in such a rush.
Through storm clouds, torrential rain,
and those picture perfect days,
You continue your steady climb toward the heavens.

Your limbs grow stronger, your roots deeper still.
Your humble beauty speaks for itself.
No need to shout, nor beg for attention.
You hold the secrets of many who return year after year,
Who sit beneath your branches,
and find healing to bloom as well.
