Find Out The Sex Of Our Baby?

January 4, 2011 by Traci

Will you answer a simple poll?

Should we find out the sex of our 3rd child?

1) Yes, definitely!
2) No, let it be a surprise.

Let’s just say we have a split vote in our home, lol!  I’d love to hear what you all think!

Feel free to just comment with #1 or #2… any expanded thoughts/viewpoints are welcomed too!

If you don’t have a google account, just comment as anonymous and leave your name.

Okay I’d have to go with #1 🙂
We’ve found out with all 6 of ours 🙂
I love being able to come up with names and talk directly to that little (well usually a boy since 5 out of 6 have been 🙂
I also feel like it’s never enough time to be prepared as it is – so knowing what to start hunting for at thrift stores or hand-me-downs helps me immensly 🙂
    Just my humble opinion 🙂

    again CONGRATS!!!!!!!

I go for yes – only because I know that I could not possibly wait 9 months to find out. lol!!!

#1…..it makes no sense to say “let it be a surprise” because it is a surprise when the ultrasound tech tells you what it is too! Plus you can go ahead and decorate the nursery and buy the baby’s clothes before they are born rather than racing around to buy pink or blue after they’re born and you’re tired. 🙂

  4. Hanna says

    January 4, 2011 at 3:08 pm

LOL, I have no self control when it is time for that ultrasound, so even though I had intentions not to find out… When I got into the appointment, I had to know and tried find out but God had other plans! 🙂 A cross-legged baby AND a lesson in patience!

I’m glad though and very excited for the surprise!

    So I vote SURPRISE!

    #2!

All of our three were surprises. The only thing I didn’t like about it was all the yellow and green we got with baby #3. I think I would have a shower after the baby arrived if I had to do it over again. I LOVED being surprised!

If you found out before, then yes. If you’ve always kept it as a surprise, then keep it a surprise. Keep your traditions- you’ll be glad you did

#2!! We found out with Connor and Bri and since you also have one of each, let it be a surprise this time! We are being surprised and we are loving it so far. Think of how exciting it is everyday at the end, anticipating going into labor to meet your baby. But think of how much MORE exciting it is when you wont know the sex!! Plus ive heard it even helps labor be a little more ‘bearable’ (if it can be!) because of the fact that your going to finally find out. Plus its so much more exciting to other people who are waiting to get that phone call, not to just hear you had the baby but they are dying to know what it is! We dont know if this is our last one or not so we definitely wanted to experience the surprise this time, in case it is our last 🙂 Im just thankful mike wanted to be surprised as well and i didnt have to fight him on it, lol!

We just wanted to know. We were nosey! LOL
We found out what 5 of our 6 were and we didn’t find that out ONLY because she wasn’t positioned “right”.

#2 – Pick out names for a boy and girl, and live a mystery for a few months. The surprise will be a great experience.

We let #2 and #4 be a surprise. It was split in our house too, so my husband got to find out #1 and #3, and I got to keep #2 and #4 a secret. Even he enjoyed the surprise that came with not knowing, esp. when after 3 boys, #4 was a girl!
If you just have to know, but want to make it special, I have a friend who had the tech write the sex down and seal it in an envelope. She took the envelope to a bakery and asked them to make her cake blue if it was a boy and pink if it was a girl. Then she held a big party for all of their family and when they cut the cake, everyone found out the sex at the same time. It was lots of fun for them.
Personally, I love the surprise in the delivery room. It is VERY special, much more special than a dark room with some stranger telling you.

I’d go for #1, but I’d keep it only between hubby and I….and maybe very close family.
I only had the choice with number 4, and it was lovely feeling like you ‘knew’ the baby before you ‘met’ him. Silly, I suppose, but we named him and were definitely able to better prepare for him. But nobody knew except hubby and me.

I would say to find out the sex of the baby! It was always fun for me to know how to plan. Plus, I always liked “talking” to my babies when I was carrying them. It was such a special time when I had them all to myself!!

#1…yes yes yes…haha. Okay well we havn’t made that decision yet but I think we will find out when the time comes. It seems like so much more fun to plan and get things ready. I want the nursery ready for him/her and have fun with the anticipation! But then again I don’t really like surpries! lol

Our first child was a girl and we found out- well my HUSBAND found out and once he knew I could not bear to not know, so, we found out and did not tell anyone else- THIS WAS SUPER FUN!!!!!!!! The. Most. Fun.
With our second, which was a boy, my husband HAD to know and we told everyone!
With our third, I WANTED a girl SO bad, but we decided NOT to find out this time. About a week before HE was born, my dr kinda said something like- “Let’s see what he’s doing today. (my face dropped) Or she, he finished.” Ugh. So, I kinda sorta knew, unofficially.
They were all born two years apart. I got rid of all my baby stuff. Then 4 years later here comes number 4. I had to know b/c if it WAS a girl I wanted to do the whole PINK thing. I never got to do it before b/c the practical side of me wouldn’t allow it. I had to go unisex everything! Well, my last ended up being a girl and it was INCREDIBLE fun to have that pink party!
So, what’s my vote? Well, there are pro’s and con’s to each, but, if you’re on the fence then maybe you should consider finding out but not telling ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to go with #1. I like the way Michelle G said it. I loved beaing able to call both Elayna and Gabriel by name when I talked to them before they were born. Now that Elayna is old enough to be so involved she loves to be able to identify with baby as well.

#2. We were surprised with all 3 and would do it the same way again.

We thought the 3rd wouild be a boy. My son (7 at the time) drew a picture for the baby and wrote “Kyle” at the top – the baby’s name if it was a boy. It was girl. He erased Kyle (not very happily) and wrote “Kristin” across the top. Great memory.

OH MY… I guess I missed something…. I would NOT learn the sex. I am from the era of not knowing unless there was a problem with the pregnancy. So with two healthy babies, I never knew and it was a trhill to get the surprise…..

I’d go with #1, too. Having 3 children, I was glad to know our 3rd was a girl after having 2 boys! BUT that’s just my opinion. 🙂 I did like the one suggestion of finding out and keeping it between you and the hubby – you could run polls from time to time just for fun on here. 🙂

All four of ours were a “surprise”. Although a part of us wanted to know….we knew it was one thing in life that could be a mystery for a while. Besides…I think it adds to the anticipation of meeting the miracle inside of you. Even during labour, it was exciting to find out what sex the baby was!!! So I definitely, vote….WAIT!!!!

Hmmm, I wanted to know with both but was only able to know with 1. I can see going with either choice though. It is fun to let it be a surprise, but then again I don’t know if I could wait that long… LOL!

#2 – Although very hard, I enjoyed waiting to find out! The clothes wasn’t a big deal for me since I already have on of each and still had all their old clothes!

Either way it will be a blessing!

I am a totally find out kind of girl. I know there are benefits to each option, but I loved knowing that Bennett was a boy.

    1. It will help your current children adjust to the idea of having a brother or sister

    2. Makes choosing a name much easier

    3. It helped me connect with Bennett easier

    4. It is a surprise whether you find out now or later.

  32. Becky says

    January 5, 2011 at 3:31 pm

I would vote for #2! Actually, with my first, we waited. With our second, we found out, and I think I just wanted to be “prepared”. It did make it easier to pick out names, but with our first we had a name ready for either gender. If we ever have another I think I would want to wait…we already have one of each, so we’re prepared for either! Plus in both of my pregnancies there were always one or two people that were right on with their guesses. I will say that it’s harder for other people though- especially when it comes to your baby shower- people like to know what gender to buy for.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I vote for #1 – find out 🙂 We found out and told the sex but we kept our name choice to ourselves with both boys. I liked being able to pick names, buy special things and really be able to plan.

Your time is fleeting, yet faithful,
a promise of beauty each spring.

Gifting petals that fall to the earth,
You are waiting for me to visit you.
Basking beneath warm shadows,
Deeply breathing in nature’s favorite perfume.

A legacy of faithful promise,
Graceful, elegant, familiar and kind.
As the sun streams through branches,
Your reflection twinkles and twirls,
Leaving your dance card upon my heart.

You whisper, come linger a little longer,

Through storm clouds, torrential rain,

You continue your steady climb toward the heavens.

Your limbs grow stronger, your roots deeper still.
