It’s Not About The Duty: (Re-Visited From Last Week)

January 21, 2010 by Traci

In case you missed it from last week, I’m re-posting it today 🙂

Hello Ladies! I have a special message for you below (please excuse my “early morning look“! I hope you can relate. I have oh-so-tired eyes)

1. I went to Bible Gateway and typed in Psalm 119:1-8. I cut and pasted it into a Word document.

2. Then I pasted it here, at this site: Convert verse to just initial letter of each word (click to view online site that will automatically do this with whatever text you paste into box) I then cut and pasted that into another Word document. I printed both, and taped one in the opposite direction of the other, on the same page.

3. I read these verses over and over. Said them out loud. Wrote them out.

4. Once they were in my brain, I thought I would try and see if I could recite them just by looking at this side of the paper:

After awhile of using this method, I had the 8 verses memorized!

How did you all do this week? Please link up in the comment section with a post you wrote about it (or just leave a comment). I can’t wait to hear from you! If you write something about it, I will paste the link into this post for others to reference.

Don’t know what the Be Blessed Challenge is? Read here and join in on the fun!

That is a great way to memorize scripture! This is something God and I are working on as well–I want the Word to be IN me!

Oh yay! We’re still doing this!! I’ve memorized the first 8 verses as well, using this exact tool!!

My daughter uses this tool as well (she’s 7) and has memorized 1 Corinthians 13:1-9!

So, I’m going to review my 8 verses and go ahead and begin my next 8.

I’ve found that having several copies of the verses in different places really helps, too. That way I don’t need to go hunting for it when I want to use it in a certain place (like sticking it to the kitchen window while I do dishes, so I can recite while I wash or load).
I can keep one in my Bible to look over for a few mins a day and in church when I’m waiting for the service to begin, etc.
There are dozens of minutes to spare to look over and memorize. 🙂
    I’m still with ya Traci!

And I loved your video! It was so perfect with your kiddos all over you!! I just loved that!

Thanks so much Traci for the encouragement you left me yesterday as I memorize 2 Peter 1:1-11. When you mentioned you are memorizing Psalm 119 I just had to come check it out and was so glad to see that was what today’s post was about. Maybe when I finish the 2 Peter passage I’ll join you in memorizing in Ps 119!

I’m finally coming out of the sick world and into the real world again!

I haven’t tried using this tool and I should. It seems to work for a lot of people. So far I’ve only have a few of the first verses down, but have read through the entire chapter with my family several times. It really is an amazing chapter. Hopefully, I can get back on track. Hopefully my life will slow down a bit too, that will help.

Thanks for stopping by last week you are so sweet.

    BTW, love the new look.
    Trish

I use these same techniques to memorize Scripture. It works for a brain like mine, that is finder it harder and harder to memorize as I grow older.

Wow, Traci! What a fabulous idea! Memorizing scripture has always been so challenging for me. You have found a way to not only make it easier, but more fun!

So cool to see you! I think everyone should post videos of themselves. Well, except for me, I’m too much of a chicken.

I can’t figure out how you manage to squeeze every second out of the day and do so much!

Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue, a gentle b Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue,
a gentle breeze blows through fresh, new blooms.
Your time is fleeting, yet faithful,
a promise of beauty each spring.

Gifting petals that fall to the earth,
You are waiting for me to visit you.
Basking beneath warm shadows,
Deeply breathing in nature’s favorite perfume.

A legacy of faithful promise,
Graceful, elegant, familiar and kind.
As the sun streams through branches,
Your reflection twinkles and twirls,
Leaving your dance card upon my heart.

You whisper, come linger a little longer,
No need to be in such a rush.
Through storm clouds, torrential rain,
and those picture perfect days,
You continue your steady climb toward the heavens.

Your limbs grow stronger, your roots deeper still.
Your humble beauty speaks for itself.
No need to shout, nor beg for attention.
You hold the secrets of many who return year after year,
Who sit beneath your branches,
and find healing to bloom as well.
