Day 4: Appliances, Windows & Kiddo Stuff

This picture is surprisingly embarrassing.  There.  You have it.  A glimpse at my filth-ridden stove.  Wowza!  Not to mention all the crumbs and nastiness that falls into the pots and pans drawer at the bottom.

Anyone have any good tricks on how to clean between those pesky pieces of glass?

What about behind stuff?
Lots of filth and bunnies (and not the cute, pink, fluffy kind).

And then there’s the refrigerator

I could start teaching Riley about science and all the wonderful green stuff that grows on our food when we let it sit too long!

  • Go through you fridge and check the dates- throw away expired food.
  • Clean off the tops of bottles and jars that have caked on goo.
  • Throw away out dated food – if there are furry friends growing in it!
  • If you get ambitious, take everything out and give it a quick wipe down.
  • Pull your fridge out (without breaking your back) and sweep behind it.
  • Clean underneath (my friend’s fridge caught on fire from too much dust on the coils – TRUE STORY).
  • Clean the outside of it (take down outdated papers, magnets, etc.)  Clean fingerprints and make it look presentable.

Maybe you want to tackle your windows/doors:

‘Cause I always have my little window smearers,
leaving me little message of love:

A reader asked what some good ways to
organize/clean her children’s rooms would be.

(This is actually pretty clean… you caught my daughter on a good day)

  • If your kids are old enough, get them to help.
  • Make it fun- turn it into a game.
  • Give out a “prize” for christian character qualities displayed (gentleness, kindness, compassion, diligence, brotherly kindness, etc)
  • Clean out the “unnecessary” toys/junk.
  • Bag it up and give it away to someone who might like it.
  • Only keep certain things in the room.  Don’t let it become a room to just throw clutter in.
  • Clean out their drawers.  Organize by shirts/pants/underwear/etc.  Bag up the clothes that don’t fit/wrong season:

  •  Clean out those closets.  Don’t let a heaping pile of mess fall on them when they open the door.  It might just injure them.

  • Teach your children at a young age how to be a good steward of their things and time.  By example, show/remind them to put things away when they are done with them- whether that is right away/after the morning is done/or even before daddy gets home in the evening.
  • This item is super good for organizing (look on craigslist/or @ garage sales).

  • Here’s what my cousin Kari made to get her children excited about chores:

When they “earn” enough, let them buy their own school clothes or birthday presents for friends.  Teach them at a young age, that being diligent and hard working is an admirable and godly characteristic!

Don’t forget to come back tomorrow.  We will have a link up party to end our week of Spring Cleaning.  Feel free to be brave, and share some before and after pictures.  What about giving us some great cleaning advice?  Let us know what you did this week or you plan on doing in the near future.  Did you learn anything?

If you are showing up a little late, catch up below:

Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue, a gentle b Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue,
a gentle breeze blows through fresh, new blooms.
Your time is fleeting, yet faithful,
a promise of beauty each spring.

Gifting petals that fall to the earth,
You are waiting for me to visit you.
Basking beneath warm shadows,
Deeply breathing in nature’s favorite perfume.

A legacy of faithful promise,
Graceful, elegant, familiar and kind.
As the sun streams through branches,
Your reflection twinkles and twirls,
Leaving your dance card upon my heart.

You whisper, come linger a little longer,
No need to be in such a rush.
Through storm clouds, torrential rain,
and those picture perfect days,
You continue your steady climb toward the heavens.

Your limbs grow stronger, your roots deeper still.
Your humble beauty speaks for itself.
No need to shout, nor beg for attention.
You hold the secrets of many who return year after year,
Who sit beneath your branches,
and find healing to bloom as well.
