When you go out to eat as a family, do you make time to pray?  Don’t worry, there isn’t a right or wrong answer.  

Truth be told, I don’t always pray for my meals at home.  I’m all in a bustle, getting little ones fed before meltdowns occur.  If you are a Mama, you know how crucial this can be!

But God wants me to mediate on Him at all times.  To constantly be aware of His presence.  To acknowledge Him in everything.  How do we do this?

1) Have a daily (yes daily) time of prayer and reading of His Word.  (The quantity of time may vary from day to day, but the continuous intake of the Holy Bread of Life, should never cease).  Psalm 27:8 “When Thou said, seek ye my face; my heart said unto Thee, Thy face Lord, will I seek.”

2) After you have read His Word, ask the Holy Spirit to allow the truth to have its way in your heart and mind.  Think of Spring time, and cultivating that fresh garden.  You must turn over the soil, over and over and so we must allow the Spirit of God to do the same in our heart and mind.   Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

3) Acknowledge Him in every situation.  Look for opportunities to learn from the truth of His Word.  Whether that be doing the mundane tasks of washing dishes, mopping the floor, or washing little faces and hands.  Look for the beauty of living out His Word, in your daily life.  “Prayer makes the mundane holy”.  Psalm 19: 14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my Redeemer.”

So what in the world, does this have to do with praying in public?  It has everything to do with it!  If we practicing these three things, daily. . . He will become real and alive in our personal life.  We will have a new thankfulness about us, for we have been communing with our Jesus.  He will simply be a beautiful reflection of His work in our frail humanity.  He will overflow from our very pores, and so, our lips will continuously give Him praise.

1) To give the Bread of Life thanks, for the earthly bread.

Hebrews 13:15 “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”

2) To show your family that Christ is real.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

3) To show the world that you are not ashamed of Him.  

1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
