Don’t Become The Stuffed Bird! 20 HELPFUL TIPS!

November 15, 2010 by Traci

1. Don’t overeat before you even get to the meal.

2. Pace yourself with appetizers and drinks.

3. Go for a nice long walk, Thanksgiving morning.

4. Remember, your first 2 bites of any food are the “best”.

5. Only fill up on your favorites.

6. When filling your plate, slow down.  Think about what you are putting on it.  Do you even like that choice?

7. If you want to keep your portions under control, only have one plate of food and don’t let anything touch!

8. Plan ahead!  Fill up on more filling foods and choose one favorite for dessert.

9. When you are finished, put your napkin on your plate or bring your plate immediately to the sink.

10. Drink lots of water!

11. Don’t wear sweatpants!  Find some comfortably “fitting” clothing to put on.

12. Remember, it is not an eat-a-thon!  You will thank yourself later when you don’t feel the need to pass out on the couch for the rest of the evening!

13. Savor your food.

14. Spend time socializing.

15. Only eat until you are satisfied.

16. STOP when you get comfortably full.

17. Chew your food between each bite.

18. Allow yourself to have a good day!  You can have the foods you love, just don’t stuff yourself !

19. Love on the people you are with!  Remember, Thanksgiving Day is not all about the food.  Spend time reaching out to your friends and family around you.

20. No regrets!  Have none.  Enjoy your day without becoming the stuffed bird!  There’s only room for one of those at the Thanksgiving table!

My sweet blogging friend Lara, @ A Farmers Wife Tells All is having a HUGE Thanksgiving Giveaway!  You could win a Christmas card design, handmade jewelry and accessories for all those Christmas parties, and t-shirts galore to sport during your marathon days of Christmas shopping! Many of the prizes also make great gifts.  And it is for a wonderful cause- to help support their adoption!

Pumpkin Pie Trifle Recipe
Ingredients:

1 12-ounce carton Cool Whip
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 teaspoon ground cardamom or cinnamon
1 30-ounce can pumpkin pie filling
1 5.1-ounce package cook-and-serve vanilla pudding mix
2 14-ounce packages gingerbread mix
1/2 cup gingersnaps (optional)

Directions

Bake the gingerbread according to the package directions; cool completely. Meanwhile, prepare the pudding and set aside to cool. Stir the pumpkin pie filling, sugar, and cardamom into the pudding. Crumble 1 batch of gingerbread into the bottom of a large, clear bowl. Pour 1/2 of the pudding mixture over the gingerbread, then add a layer of whipped cream. Repeat with the remaining gingerbread, pudding, and whipped cream. Sprinkle of the top with crushed gingersnaps if desired. Refrigerate overnight. Trifle can be layered in a punch bowl.
