I always thought I had a high threshold for pain. . . until I experienced the pangs of labor. Oh me oh my! There is nothing like it!  To try and explain it to a new, soon – to – be mother, is a difficult task.

I recall being a very independent child.  Not overly affectionate, and tough under pressure.  Except when I got really sick.  As a feverish young child, I remember laying my head on my mother’s cool lap; her fingers, combing through my curly locks.  Oh how that brought me comfort. 

When I am in pain, I seek to be comforted; for some relief.

Life’s pains can be truly unbearable.  Or they seem to be!  The struggles we face seem to linger longer than we’d like.  A thorn – in – the – flesh, type of wound.  A cloud that seems to hang over us. 

Lord, when will I see the light?  We plead and beg, “bring some sunshine and relief to my heartache, please!”

But maybe He wants us to experience the pain?  To make us more sensitive, to the needs around us.  I still don’t like experiencing pain!  At all.  I try my best to avoid it at all cost.   But what if that is God’s plan for me, at the moment?

When I’m in pain, it sure makes me pray more for others! They come to my mind more often.  My heart is pricked to pray with a sincere heart, for them.  To reach out more.  To care more.
