Surrender (and a Little Family update)

As the years pass, I’m more aware of God’s sovereign hand.

The ticking hand of a clock, the moving of a weighty dark cloud in front of a blazing orange sun, and the way He moves your heart and mine.

The more we try to resist His hand, and force the ticking clock to slow down, to rewind, or move forward, it causes a heavy weight on our heart. We weren’t meant to control His ticking hand. Our minds give a reactive cringe, and become anxious and weary. We start to believe that we have control over people, places and things. Spoiler alert – we don’t.

I’ve come to learn (and still am learning) that we have the most peace when we surrender with open hands to our Maker. Not one hand closed, and one hand open, but both open. The One who forms the magnificent mountain range, calms the raging seas of our own heart. His hand is strong enough to build and soft enough to calm our anxious hearts.

Do we let Him?

I write these words as a way to encourage our hearts to surrender to the leading of God. Not to force His will, but to fully trust His leading in our lives.

When we surrender we are saying that His ways are best.

When we surrender we are walking in the freedom of obedience.

When we surrender we are at peace in the midst of His will.

When we surrender we don’t have to worry about what others think.

When we surrender we have hope and assurance that His name is being made known in our life.

It’s all about Him and making the gospel known to others (and our own hearts) over and over.

Are we pointing to Jesus?

So whatever you do today and tomorrow and the next day, please know, as you surrender your day and your moments with fully open hands, you need not be anxioius about a thing.

Little Family Update:

God has been doing a work in the Little home for some time now.  We’ve been open to His leading us out of New York since we got married 17 years ago (knowing that it might be a possibility with my husband’s job).  We never wanted to leave, “just to leave”.  We wanted it to be from the Lord. So we waited.

God has led our family to Ashland, Ohio. His hand was on my husband’s new job, the location we would live, the community we would start to build, and the school our children are to attend. He was and is over it all.

We surrender to Him.

Although it is bittersweet as we will miss family and friends, we are excited and hopeful because we ultimately trust God’s perfect leading over our lives.  We want to continually make Him known, not ourselves. 

There is perfect peace when you walk a surrendered life. People may question it. They may not fully understand. That’s okay.
