I am instructed to be watchful. I’m being prowled. There is one who wants to devour me. Renouncing ungodliness and the passions of the world, I need to wake up each morning seeking to be clothed in self control. Prayer keeps me sober minded. Oh and the Word of God. All scripture is breathed out for my benefit. Protection. It’s my armor. I’m being trained in righteousness in this life. To be sober means to be filled with the Spirit. It means to have a mind that is prepared for action, setting my hope fully on grace. Free. Free from the love and bondage of money, fame, and pride. I must seek, above all else, to be obedient to Christ rather than man. We must all awake from our drunken stupor. I need to stop sleep walking a life of sin. That’s what I do when I’m not sober minded. When I’m not alert. When I’m not spirit-filled. When I don’t have a prepared mind.
When I’m out and about by myself in the evening, without the shelter of my husband’s arm, I am always and ever alert to my surroundings. How much more do I need to be doing this with respect to spiritual warfare. The enemy wants my home, my husband, my kids, my mind, me! He waits and lurks for me to be anything but sober minded.
So be on guard, dear sisters. Seek to be a sober-minded, dear believer. It’s so very important. Your family is at stake. Your community is at stake. Your church body is at stake.
