Eating My Placenta

June 21, 2011 by Traci

I will try just about anything when it comes to food… almost.  Did you know people eat their placenta?  I’m all for being healthy, but I just can’t even entertain the thought of eating my placenta.  It is still just a yucky after-birth that is meant to be discarded, in my opinion.

There are also things you should never search for in google images… “eating your placenta” is one of them!  Looking for some new recipes?

GAG ME!

Give me my green-leafy veggies, protein, and water… and leave the placenta off my plate, thank you very much!

When I saw the title over on FB, I, as my kids say, baby barfed! lol. I just can’t even begin to think of eating the placenta. Blah!

first of all – I gasped when I saw the title of your post! LOL
We joke around because years ago a midwife told us about when she had been over in another country they prepared a big veggie stew…and then waited for the last ingredient – yeah you guessed it. It was meant to give the mother extra strength and calories after child birth – and it was a way for the whole family to celebrate…
So my husband always tells the kids – we’re having placenta stew today (when I’m in labor)
which of course we DO NOT (urp)

On a less yucky note, some people save it and bury it with a tree or something in honor of their baby’s birth. It is very nutrient rich, so I guess it makes great fertilizer too.

Omgosh are you serious? I have never heard of that. YUCK. I will skip that too.

Oh, I am glad you are not doing that. I have heard of women saving it in the freezer and planting it under a tree, but never eating it!

Oh YUUUUUCCK! I’ve never heard of this one and am glad to know you’re not gonna give it a try.

Yes, some people eat it (in food) others capsulate it. I don’t guess the capsules would be too bad but I still don’t think I could swallow it! 🙁 I agree with the tree idea, if you can get up enough stomach to ask for it and take it home from the hospital 😉 I too liked your title! Too funny!!

I have heard of this (it became a hot topic on Baby Center when I was nearing the end of my pregnancy with Robi). People also have it preserved and make shapes, like bunnies and bears, out of it. Or have it framed in shapes like trees and stuff. All I could think of is: “WHY???” You have your kid as a reminder of that special event – even pictures as they grow and mature….you can even have pictures taken WHILE the baby is being born. Why one needs to preserve their placenta is waaaaay beyond me.

Sorry, that is just THE silliest thing I’ve ever heard of, EVER!

eewwwwww…! I don’t know if I would be able to eat placenta, even if I was starving to death?

I just want to thank you for your beautiful inspirations and friendship Traci :))

Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue, a gentle b Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue,
a gentle breeze blows through fresh, new blooms.
Your time is fleeting, yet faithful,
a promise of beauty each spring.

Gifting petals that fall to the earth,
You are waiting for me to visit you.
Basking beneath warm shadows,
Deeply breathing in nature’s favorite perfume.

A legacy of faithful promise,
Graceful, elegant, familiar and kind.
As the sun streams through branches,
Your reflection twinkles and twirls,
Leaving your dance card upon my heart.

You whisper, come linger a little longer,
No need to be in such a rush.
Through storm clouds, torrential rain,
and those picture perfect days,
You continue your steady climb toward the heavens.

Your limbs grow stronger, your roots deeper still.
Your humble beauty speaks for itself.
No need to shout, nor beg for attention.
You hold the secrets of many who return year after year,
Who sit beneath your branches,
and find healing to bloom as well.
