The Things I Would Miss

August 31, 2009 by Traci

If “They” Were Taken Away

“Thou that hast given so much to me,
Give me one thing more, a grateful heart:
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
as if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise!”
–George Herbert

#50-72

Messy bibs tossed over a highchair,

Crumbs on the dining room table after it has been freshly wiped,

Tiny clothes folded on a little girl’s dresser,

Stuffed animals piled high in a closet,

Dirty diapers,

Toys spilled over in a bathtub,

Hearts, ABC’s, and rainbows written all over a
sidewalk and driveway,

Walking hand-in-hand into church as a family,

A smiley boy bouncing higher than Tigger in
his jumparoo,

My husband’s dirty boots left on a clean floor,

Wadded up toilet paper ‘decorating’ a bathroom floor,

Wilting, yellow grass where a kiddy pool once was,

Little arms wrapped tightly around my neck,

Being woken up out of a dead sleep by a little girl who
had a bad dream,

Watching my daughter build a tower out of Legos
with her Daddy,

Having someone to share a warm bed with; that
truly adores me with his whole heart,

A Husband that loves sports,

Being able to give my children a bath; and
watch them splash all over,

Family time in the evening; grilling, laughing,
and eating together around a table,

Toy bins to organize and re-organize,

Play Dough glued to the table,

Crayon on the wall,

Butterfly – catchers and a swing set,

THE GIFT OF FAMILY

It won’t be your job,
or even your ministry
that will flash through your mind at
your God-appointed time of death,

It will be those under your own roof!

Counting the Blessings of Family
today over at Ann’s Blog.

Great List! It’s often easy to look the little things like this as annoyances instead of blessings. I always tell myself when my floors are covered with toys and crumbs and dirt that if all of this was clean, it would mean I’m in my house alone and probably lonely.

What a marvelous post! So many items on that the world would see as problems or annoyances–what a blessing to look at them through God-colored glasses and turn them to joy!

I miss so many of these little kid things. But they are remembered and treasured and cherished. As we should.

    dirty boots
    messy toy bins

Your heart spills over with thanksgiving. I love seeing Gratitude through your eyes.

Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue, a gentle b Blushing with your delicate, rosy hue,
a gentle breeze blows through fresh, new blooms.
Your time is fleeting, yet faithful,
a promise of beauty each spring.

Gifting petals that fall to the earth,
You are waiting for me to visit you.
Basking beneath warm shadows,
Deeply breathing in nature’s favorite perfume.

A legacy of faithful promise,
Graceful, elegant, familiar and kind.
As the sun streams through branches,
Your reflection twinkles and twirls,
Leaving your dance card upon my heart.

You whisper, come linger a little longer,
No need to be in such a rush.
Through storm clouds, torrential rain,
and those picture perfect days,
You continue your steady climb toward the heavens.

Your limbs grow stronger, your roots deeper still.
Your humble beauty speaks for itself.
No need to shout, nor beg for attention.
You hold the secrets of many who return year after year,
Who sit beneath your branches,
and find healing to bloom as well.
