Do you ever feel a tad bit jealous when you see super fabulous DIY projects like my friend Heather’s $4.50 Easy, No-Sew Roman Shade Tutorial?
I do! I think, I most certainly would NOT be able to “DO. THAT. MYSELF”! I’ll pay the $30.00 just to keep my sanity alone, thank you very much!
It’s not like I’m not happy for these super-de-duper-creative-have-it-all-together women… I AM! But I hear so many women echoing what I often think:
Man, I feel like a failure compared to her.
How does she do it all?
I can barely keep my house in order during the day and she can do all that!
So often we compare our worth based on how we think we measure up compared to other women. Do we not?
Some things to remember if you are struggling to be content in a D.I.Y World:
1. Your worth is found in Christ. He created you just the way you are!
2. You have many talents that other women do not possess. Thrive where God’s gifted you.
3. Other women have many talents that you do not possess. Get over it.
4. Stop beating yourself up that your house isn’t perfect, you sometimes yell at your children, and you’d rather buy something full price instead of taking the time to make it.
5. You are unique and a gift from the Lord! Keep shining right where you are at.
1 Corinthians 10:31: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Keep shining your light, indeed! Wonderful post Traci!
Hey, I'm Heather. says
awww trac!!! i’m sorry if i make you feel like that! i’ll say that ALL mama’s have lots of WONDERFUL talents, but they are NOT all the same. no one does it all, we all just do different things. i don’t leave my house at all, MOST days of the week because of the children i babysit, which is how i get a lot done. i also dont sleep more than 6 hours a night. i dont work out. i dont cook anything fun or exciting. i think it is SO hard in the online world because you mostly only see the GOOD things in people’s lives and it can make it seem like they have it all together. not true! you just dont see or hear about the negative stuff. my goal is to encourage people that if they WANT to do DIY stuff, they CAN. some people love to craft, some dont, and that’s ok! we are all so different, thank the Lord for that! i hate to hear that what i do discourages, since i do it to try to encourage. xoxox

It’s so true! I do find myself comparing my abilities to those online at times. But, it’s also fun to try a DIY project now and then that is totally out of my comfort zone and see how it goes.
You’re so right Traci – our worth is in Christ and Christ alone. 🙂
Blessings to you Sister in Christ!

Great message! Comparison is the mother of insecurity! We are so blessed – we need only be our original ‘us’!!

I love that Francesca Battestelli song “Free to be Me”
It goes along with what you are trying to say.
We need to be who God made US to be, not who he made everyone else to be.
