Look around you. Go ahead, look.
Now close your eyes, just for a moment.
Open them.
Imagine all you have, all around you… people, things, the unseen yet tangible, would be taken away tomorrow if you did not thank God for them today.
Does this change your perspective on a thankful heart? Start thanking the Lord for everything you would not want taken away tomorrow.
I tried it this morning… my whole outlook has changed. Or been, renewed.
I thanked Him for my family, for coffee, for the table I rest my feet upon, for my ability to think, for my health, and so forth.
Try it… it may just change the way you give thanks as well.
It may even cause you to move from Thanks-giving to Thanks-living.
Just maybe?
Psalm 100
1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Beautiful thoughts! I do this every day, for simple things like having water to drink. We take so much for granted…

Someone posted something like this as their status the other day on FB, and it totally rocked my world…what if everything was taken away today that you didn’t thank God for yesterday? So good! Love your post. We so need just stop and thank God for the lITTLE things, as well as the big. They are all blessings! Thank you for the reminder.

Thanks-living, that’s great, Traci! Thanks for the encouragement to live in the moment and praise God for it all.

I used to think I was really grateful. I’d stop several times throughout the day and thank God for a beautiful blue sky, or the fact that I didn’t get stuck at a single stop light on the way to work.
But then I realized I wasn’t thanking Him for my warm bed… kisses from my sweet dog… my car… the umbrella that keeps me dry when it’s raining. There’s just so much we have that we take for granted. We need to thank Him every day for EVERYTHING.
Thanks for a great post! 🙂

What a convicting post Traci. We DO take a lot of things for granted.. every day God is providing, protecting and caring for us.. even in the little things we don’t pay attention to.
Thanks for this reminder. God bless!
