I could give you a page full of excuses about why I haven’t been “leading” the Be Blessed Challenge, like I should. I’ll save my breath, and just say, I’m sorry.
How have you all been doing? Anybody have the first 8 verses of Psalm 119 memorized yet?
Cherry Blossom, from Beauty In All Things, reminded me of a great resource that Ann Voskamp posted on her blog awhile back. I cut and pasted it below (**pictures are also Ann’s. Thank you!**):
Convert verse to just initial letter of each word (click to view online site that will automatically do this with whatever text you paste into box) — then print it out and carry with you!
With only the first letter as a cue, it powerfully engages the brain to fill in the rest of the word. I then review by rewriting my verses just using the first letter of each word, forcing brain to carve out the rest of the word in deep memory. This has made memorization infinitely easier for this old brain! (HT: Ann Kroeker)
Check out Cherry Blossom’s post about how it has helped her memorize Psalm 91, here.
Read her testimonial of how it has helped her already:
I finished Psalm 91 in about a month and it was easy. I am still refreshing my memory every few days. I have moved onto Psalm 27. Maybe I will join your group when I am done those! Cherry Blossom
Why don’t we give it a try this week with the first 8 verses. I’m really excited to try this “tool” out! How about you?
Check out some other useful tools, Ann Kroeker suggests: (record someone reading your selection, set it to a song, create hand motions, draw pictures, key words, write it out, repeat repeat repeat, and even practice while exercising! Visit her site, here to check out the details!
Don’t forget to visit this site, and let it convert it for you! It can’t hurt to give it a try, right?
Check back next Thursday and we can share how it has helped us all!
See for yourself! Give it a try! I’m going to! I went to Bible Gateway and typed in Psalm 119:1-4 (in the version you prefer).
Psalm 119:1-4
1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
Then copy and pasted it HERE, (make sure there is a space between numbers and letters) and this is what it gave me:
1 B a t u i t w, w w i t l o t L.
2 B a t t k h t, a t s h w t w h.
3 T a d n i: t w i h w.
4 T h c u t k t p d.

Thanks for that tip. I saw it on Ann’s blog awhile ago but kind of forgot about it. I’m going to try it. Hope your Psalm 119 goes well. I am going to be memorizing Proverbs 31 over on my blog starting next week.

I was thinking about you last night, and was headed over here when I got distracted.
I was reading Psalm 119 and wondered how things were going over here with it. I got a good start, but never finished it or tried after Thanksgiving.
Thanks for stopping by girl 🙂

Thanks so much for posting again. I need another boost to keep going on my memorization.
I had heard of this way of memorization, but had forgotten about it. Will certainly need to give it a try again. Thanks again for leading this group.
I will wait till Thursday to update my progress on Ps. 119

I didn’t know about your challenge until just now–how great! I hope you and those working on Psalm 119 with you are indeed blessed!
Periodically I host Mega Memory Month, and it’s on this month, January 2010, so we’re overlapping on our big memory undertakings.
If I’d known about Be Blessed Challenge before, I’d have promoted it–people could double-up, memorizing Psalm 119 for Mega Memory Month at the same time and have double the accountability!
Have a wonderful, blessed month of memorization. I’m delighted to meet you!
