I don’t want to be a loser (shamefully slapping a formed letter “L” with my fingers against my too large of a forehead). I can hear Jim Carey now. Laaahooosaaaher.
All too often I live a life of mediocrity. Sure, I’m hanging by, living a happily maintainable lifestyle, but where’s the greatness in that? Is this the way God intended for me to live?
We are only here for a short moment. A mere blink in all of eternity. Why not make a difference? Why not live above mediocrity and strive for immeasurable excellence?
But how?
1) Determine that a mediocre lifestyle is not acceptable.
If you are okay with just getting by, you will continue to live that way. You must make a decision in your mind that it’s not enough for you. If you keep doing the things you’ve always done, you will get the same results.
2) Don’t use others as your standard of measurement.
Comparing ourselves to others will always make us feel super-human. You can always find someone that is doing a little less to make yourself feel great. Use God as your standard of measurement. We are meant to become like Jesus, a little more each day. Are you striving to learn new things from His Word today or are you living on the moldy manna of yesterday?
3) Do the hard things today.
If you want to live a life of greatness, you must do the hard things today. Make the hard choices to put flesh aside, and die to your pride. It’s all worth it. God has a purpose in having us come to this place. His power through you is the ultimate goal.
Romans 6:21-23
22-23 But now that you’ve found you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way! Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.
