Word prompt: Still
GO…
I’ve been anything BUT still lately. My husband tells me I need to pace myself… to know my own limitations and take a step back when it gets “too much”. I know he is right, and yet, I make my own excuses. It’s nesting. I’m a woman. I need to finish what I start. Why do we {I} place the highest expectations on ourselves? I go go go… and never stop until I’m done.
I exhaust myself.
I get angry.
I ooze frustration and it poisons those around me.
I’m reminded to be still.
To stop.
Why is that so hard?
I have a wooden frame in my dining room that says,
“Let us be silent that we may hear the whisper of God.”
I haven’t been silent long enough to hear His sweet whispers.
I haven’t been silent long enough to hear anything above my own madness.
I haven’t been still…
Have you been like me? Are you rolling down a hill in one of those hamster wheels, the inertia whirring, ready to knock down anyone in your path?
This is not God’s will for our life… let HIM put on the brakes by stopping and sipping from the LIVING WORD!
Psalm 46:10
“Be still and know that I am God.”
“Be still and know that I am God.”
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Sometimes I have to repeat things 3 times in order to “get it”. Have you “got it”?
STOP….
Thanks for visiting!

LOVE that picture!! Ps 46:10 is one of my favorite verses and it is posted several times in my house because, well, I need to be reminded often.

visiting from (in)courage. Yes, I relate to your words. How hard it is to stop once we get going.

Oh Traci! We {I} need to hear this today. Love what your frame says, “Let us be silent that we may hear the whisper of God.” Be still and know, be still and know, be still and know. I’m a person of 3’s too. 🙂 God speaks the loudest when we are still. We’ve heard Him – now are we going to obey? Love ya sister!

Traci, this is breathtaking! I too long to be still long enough to hear the whispers of God. I fell I am missing too many beautiful things by constantly being on the go. I linked up today for the first time. Scary at first, but so freeing! I am sure this will be a regular habit for me.

Yes, I so relate! I want to cram so much into one day and I want to do it all to perfection! Ha..it makes me laugh just writing that because it’s completely opposite of what God wants to do in our heart..calm my anxious heart and rely FULLY on me, He whispers! Thanks for the reminder!

Great post. I tend to think I need God to really YELL right in my ear rather than be STILL and listen to his wise whisper. I need to get a grip! 🙂

I have felt like a hamster on a wheel a lot lately! We shouldn’t get involved in the rat race, but sometimes it’s hard not to. I always say that the rats are winning! God wants us to rest! Let’s pray for one another that we’ll learn how to do a better job of resting.

I love the thing about the hamster wheel and the inertia. That’s certainly how I feel sometimes! God knew what he was doing when He put that verse in the Bible… and I love the second half: “I will be exalted in all the earth.” No matter how much we worry or how hard we work, He is God and He will be exalted. So comforting.

So grateful you stopped by my blog, Traci! Ha – looks like we had the same thing on our minds…learning to be still as we are “doers.” Not so easy, but the Lord has great fruit for us as we learn…

Love your five minutes today!! That hamster wheel analogy sounds too much like me!

I have to echo what the others are saying. You hit the perfect analogy with the hamster in the wheel. I must say, though, I am far beyond saying “Be still” three times and I still have trouble getting it.

Thanks Traci for your comments on my blog… that is so wonderful how God whispered to both of us about the same thing! Love it:-)

hat a great post! I think us as women have a hard time being still because we want to be productive and good wives and daughters, or whatever we are at the moment, and sometimes we need to stop and think that God sees us just as beautiful as we are, no need to complete a to do list or to please everyone! Let’s keep praying that God takes us to that place of quietness. and praise God for your Godly husband!
